In all the world's great spiritual traditions lights are offered in prayer and remembrance for family and friends. We offer for those who are suffering, facing difficulties or who have died, and for situations in the world that touch our hearts. We also offer lights as an expression of our love, joy or gratitude.
At Dzogchen Beara Retreat Centre, lights are offered in the Tibetan Buddhist custom in a traditional hand crafted Butter Lamp House. Lamps can be offered and lit directly by visitors to the centre or you can send us a request and we can light them for you.

You can offer for a loved one, a new venture or simply with a good intention. You can dedicate a single lamp, 21 or 108 lamps (traditionally auspicious numbers) or as many as you like. Your offering can be dedicated for those who are suffering, facing difficulties or for those who have died, for situations in the world that touch your heart ...or you can offer lights as an expression of love, joy or gratitude. In the past as many as 10,000 lights have been sponsored at once!
Sogyal Rinpoche, the spiritual director of Dzogchen Beara, lit the first lamp in 2005. Since then more than 100,000 butter lamps have been offered.
To make an online offering please indicate in the field for 'Comments': – For whom you would like to dedicate these lamps – You may also wish to indicate the occasion or circumstances.
Alternatively you may wish to download the brochure at the bottom of this page. If you would like to light lamps in someone's name, you can use the card contained in the brochure to let them or their family know. Dzogchen Beara is a registered charity, no. CHY9368, and all donations received for butter lamps are used to support and develop the centre.
