From 2 to 11 July 2010, 300 people gathered in Dzogchen Beara for a 10-day retreat with Sogyal Rinpoche. Rinpoche taught on "The healing power of meditation" guiding a range of practices to transform our minds and help remove illnesses and obscurations. Rinpoche delivered his teachings with clarity, loving presence and a sense of humour.
At 5pm on Saturday 26 June the “City to the Scenery” cyclists were greeted with a spirited welcome from family, friends and staff as they arrived at the Castletownbere Community Hospital after more than six hours of cycling.
On 28 May 2010, on his way to Dzogchen Beara to lead a weekend retreat, Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche visited Skellig Michael, the site of an ancient Christian monastic community 9 miles off the coast of County Kerry.
From 10th to 13th July 2009 Dzogchen Beara offered a free weekend of meditation, music, poetry and art for the local community and visitors to the area.
On Saturday 30th May 2009 we were delighted to welcome Ringu Tulku Rinpoche. Rinpoche first came to Dzogchen Beara in 1990 and has been here every year since.
On 8th March 2009 staff, students and friends of the Cork School of Music
performed an evening of opera "Love, Hope and Destiny" in aid of Dechen
Shying Spiritual Care Centre.
Canon Paul Willoughby from Bantry and seven members of the Carberry Clerical Society toured the Spiritual Care Centre and held a short ceremony and blessing for the new building.
The Spiritual Care Centre is due to welcome its first guests in early 2009. However, on Sunday 17th August we held an open evening and art exhibition in the soon-to-be finished building. The art exhibition was by local artist Tim Goulding whose exhibited 27 pieces from his "Floating World" series in the main promenade and guest rooms.
During the Summer Retreat in June 2008 Sogyal Rinpoche received the keys of the Spiritual Care Centre from the builders Cahalane Brothers of Dunmanway.
In April this year Christy Moore and Declan Sinnott played two benefit concerts at Dzogchen Beara, with all the proceeds directed towards the Care Centre. Chrisy was generous in thanking the audience and the team at Dzogchen Beara, "The hospitality has been as spectacular as the view!"
