SUMMARY:Finding Unshakeable Certainty
DESCRIPTION:Finding Unshakeable Certainty\nWeekend Teachings with Khenpo Tashi \nHighlights from the Beacon of Certainty by Mipham Rinpoche \nWhat is our practice actually built on? \nMany of us have spent years on the path: meditating\, deepening compassion\, engaging in Vajrayana practice\, receiving profound teachings that have inspired and transformed us. Yet at a certain point\, questions like this begin to arise. What are we truly recognizing in meditation? How do we distinguish genuine understanding from concepts\, experiences\, or passing states? \nThe great masters of the Nyingma tradition understood that these questions cannot be answered through faith alone. They require investigation\, reflection\, and a View that becomes clear through our own experience. \nFor these teachings\, Khenpo Tashi draws on selected highlights from The Beacon of Certainty by Mipham Rinpoche\, a profound text of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Structured around essential questions of view and meditation\, the text guides practitioners with remarkable precision through the relationship between appearance and emptiness\, analysis and direct experience\, understanding and realization. \nDeeply grounded in the lineage of Longchenpa and Mipham Rinpoche\, Khenpo Tashi has a rare ability to make these teachings feel immediate and alive\, revealing how they relate directly to our own path and experience. \nThese teachings are open to all practitioners with a grounding in meditation and Lojong. Whether you are newer to the philosophical dimension of the Dharma or a long-time practitioner seeking a firmer foundation beneath your practice\, they offer something increasingly rare: the opportunity to develop a clear and stable confidence in the View\, one that can genuinely support the path in every circumstance. \nThe retreat will include periods of silence including during tea breaks and some meal times \nLocation\nThe retreat will be held in our new Dzogchen Beara Temple. With expansive views across the bay\, the temple is a modern example of a traditional Tibetan monastery\, a form of architecture designed to be an inspiring symbol of the Buddha’s teachings for our times.

SUMMARY:Weekend of Teachings with Verena Pfeiffer
DESCRIPTION:If we want to be more compassionate and skillful in our words\, thoughts and deeds\, it is very helpful to have a framework that can support our deepest aspirations to flourish. \nThe teachings on the six paramitas\, a foundation of the Mahayana Buddhist path\, can act as a guide. Join Verena Pfeiffer for this immersive weekend exploration of the paramita of discipline (shila in sanskrit)\, the second of the six perfections. The essence of the practice of discipline is refraining from harm and the attitude of wanting to harm.  \nThe purpose of discipline or ethical conduct is to simplify our lives and to help us to understand the attitudes and behaviour to adopt and to abandon that help us to live in a more open-hearted\, compassionate and discerning way. Through awareness we learn to set appropriate boundaries and in acting accordingly we ultimately find the freedom to live in a manner that brings benefit to ourselves and others. The practice of discipline becomes a supportive framework and a form of love that protects ourselves and society. \nFrom the Buddhist point of view\, ethics or discipline is not something that is imposed from the outside but it is something that comes from seeing and understanding cause and effect.  \nWho is this for? \nAll are welcome\, whether you are a beginner on the Buddhist path\, or an experienced dharma practitioner.

SUMMARY:Relationships & the Spiritual Path
DESCRIPTION:Relationships & the Spiritual Path\nWeekend of Teachings with Lama Tsering Everest \nIn the West\, people often strive to integrate relationships and raising a family into their spiritual life. This is not always easy\, because our ordinary models for relationships often fail us and our worldly responsibilities seem to conflict with our spiritual aspirations. As a wife\, mother\, and teacher\, Lama Tsering will discuss how our interactions with others can provide opportunities for reflection\, selflessness\, and the maturing of spiritual qualities. \nIn our intimacy with others there can be many opportunities for reflection\, for true selflessness\, and for the maturing of genuine spiritual qualities. One’s ability to love and care for all living beings can begin at home. \nIn the warm\, direct\, and humorous manner for which she is known\, Lama Tsering Everest will discuss how to make relationships an important element of spiritual growth. \nLocation\nThe retreat will be held in our newly opened Temple\, which is a modern example of a traditional Tibetan monastery designed to be an inspiring symbol of the Buddha’s teachings for our times.

SUMMARY:Background to the Dzogchen Pith Instructions
DESCRIPTION:Background to the Dzogchen Pith Instructions Part 1\nPart One \nAt the heart of the Dzogchen teachings taught by Sogyal Rinpoche\, are the extraordinary pith instructions on trekchö that he received from Nyoshul Khenpo Jamyang Dorje. These ‘Dzogchen Mengak’ teachings are what Rinpoche most deeply wished for his Dzogchen Mandala students to study\, practise and accomplish. \nThe Mengak teachings begin with a series of profound topics called ‘The Background’\, which Rinpoche taught thoroughly during the Three Year Retreat (2006-2009) and which were studied\, more essentially\, in the Dzogchen Mandala Study Programme (2015-2016). \nNow in Dzogchen Beara\, for the first time\, we are offering a chance for Dzogchen Mandala students who have previously received these teachings to study and practise them thoroughly in a retreat setting \nThe retreat in November is the first of a series of three retreats which we plan to hold over three consecutive years where the teachings that Sogyal Rinpoche gave during the Three Year Retreat will be shared\, reflected upon and practised.Throughout the retreat there will be a strong emphasis on invoking the blessings of the Dzogchen masters of the lineage and on the profound practice of Guru Yoga. \nThe teachings on this retreat have only recently been released\, and have been shared in retreats in Lerab Ling and in Blueys\, Australia. \nPlease note that this retreat will be offered in ENGLISH ONLY \nTEACHERS\nDesigned under the guidance of Patrick Gaffney\, this retreat on the Dzogchen Mengak Background teachings will be led by Rigpa Senior Teachers Valerie Baker and Ian Ives and Rigpa teacher Naomi Gassler. \nCRITERIA\nThis event is open to students who have previously received the teachings on the Background to the Dzogchen Mengak either:\n—during the 3-Year Retreat\, or\n—during the Dzogchen Retreat extension of September 2015\, or\n—the Dzogchen Study Programme of 2015- 2016. \nIn addition students need to:\n—have completed—or almost completed—the accumulations of the Longchen Nyingtik Ngöndro\, and\n—have received one of the following empowerments: Nyingtik Yabshyi\, Chetsun Nyingtik or Tigle Gyachen. \nHOW TO FOLLOW & APPLY\nDue to the extraordinary nature of the teachings shared\, the retreat will be held in-person only and will not be shared online. \nIf you would like to participate in this retreat please fill out this google form before the 1st of October 2026. With expansive views across the bay\, the temple is a modern example of a traditional Tibetan monastery\, a form of architecture designed to be an inspiring symbol of the Buddha’s teachings for our times.
