Authentic Presence Immersion is an experiential training in contemplative-based end-of-life care. The training offers participants the space and the opportunity to strengthen their inner balance and enhance their skills and knowledge serving the dying. The retreat also includes Kum Nye – gentle movement and breathing exercises – suitable for all ages and fitness levels – that restore the body’s natural rhythms and calm the mind. \nEach day will include guided meditations\, Kum Nye (tibetan yoga)\, short talks & discussions as well as periods of silence to allow you to fully relax into the retreat. \n\nThe spacious schedule allows time to be in nature\, to rest and to enjoy nourishing meals together.\nThe retreat will be held at the Spiritual Care Centre and is limited to 16 people. DESCRIPTION:Background to the Dzogchen Pith Instructions Part 1\nPart One \nAt the heart of the Dzogchen teachings taught by Sogyal Rinpoche\, are the extraordinary pith instructions on trekchö that he received from Nyoshul Khenpo Jamyang Dorje. These ‘Dzogchen Mengak’ teachings are what Rinpoche most deeply wished for his Dzogchen Mandala students to study\, practise and accomplish. \nThe Mengak teachings begin with a series of profound topics called ‘The Background’\, which Rinpoche taught thoroughly during the Three Year Retreat (2006-2009) and which were studied\, more essentially\, in the Dzogchen Mandala Study Programme (2015-2016). \nNow in Dzogchen Beara\, for the first time\, we are offering a chance for Dzogchen Mandala students who have previously received these teachings to study and practise them thoroughly in a retreat setting \nThe retreat in November is the first of a series of three retreats which we plan to hold over three consecutive years where the teachings that Sogyal Rinpoche gave during the Three Year Retreat will be shared\, reflected upon and practised.Throughout the retreat there will be a strong emphasis on invoking the blessings of the Dzogchen masters of the lineage and on the profound practice of Guru Yoga. \nThe teachings on this retreat have only recently been released\, and have been shared in retreats in Lerab Ling and in Blueys\, Australia. \nPlease note that this retreat will be offered in ENGLISH ONLY \nTEACHERS\nDesigned under the guidance of Patrick Gaffney\, this retreat on the Dzogchen Mengak Background teachings will be led by Rigpa Senior Teachers Valerie Baker and Ian Ives and Rigpa teacher Naomi Gassler. \nCRITERIA\nThis event is open to students who have previously received the teachings on the Background to the Dzogchen Mengak either:\n—during the 3-Year Retreat\, or\n—during the Dzogchen Retreat extension of September 2015\, or\n—the Dzogchen Study Programme of 2015- 2016. \nIn addition students need to:\n—have completed—or almost completed—the accumulations of the Longchen Nyingtik Ngöndro\, and\n—have received one of the following empowerments: Nyingtik Yabshyi\, Chetsun Nyingtik or Tigle Gyachen. \nHOW TO FOLLOW & APPLY\nDue to the extraordinary nature of the teachings shared\, the retreat will be held in-person only and will not be shared online. \nIf you would like to participate in this retreat please fill out this google form before the 1st of October 2026. DESCRIPTION:The Heart Practice for Difficult Times\nWeekend Retreat with John Douglas & Anne Sheehan \nWhen things are difficult in our lives\, strong emotions can sometimes overwhelm us\, making it hard to get on with even the simplest of daily tasks. \nWhile meditation instructions invite us to stay present in the face of such strong emotions\, to neither indulge nor suppress them\, for many of us\, it is hard to stay with such feelings for long without becoming overwhelmed or else completely shutting down. \nIn this weekend workshop we will introduce methods from the Tibetan Buddhist Tradition for working with our hearts and minds that can be particularly helpful for easing\, releasing and transforming some of our more difficult feelings. \nContent Summary \n\nHow meditation techniques can help increase our tolerance for our own feelings\nUsing imagination and visualisation to help soothe and calm our minds and hearts\nGuided meditations and visualisations particularly focussed on calming or transforming our emotions\nAn introduction to using mantras\nExploring our personal relationship with prayer and how calling out from the heart can help connect us to greater sources of love and transformation both within and without irrespective of our belief system\nIntegrating these various elements into a personal “Heart Practice” that we can have and use as a refuge for difficult times in our lives\nSmall group discussions to share our experiences\n\nLocation\nThe retreat will be held in the Dzogchen Beara Temple. With expansive views across the bay\, the temple is a modern example of a traditional Tibetan monastery\, a form of architecture designed to be an inspiring symbol of the Buddha’s teachings for our times.

DESCRIPTION:Good in the Beginning – New Year Retreat\nTraditionally the New Year is a time for making a fresh start and reflecting on the direction we would like our life to take. This year’s Good in the Beginning retreat aims to help us start 2027 with a joyful heart. \nThis retreat is an ideal opportunity to reflect on our priorities and to begin the coming year in a way that is in tune with our deeper values in a world that is in desperate need of authentic and caring people. \nDuring this retreat we will take time to consider the preciousness of our lives and see how we can develop a compassionate motivation in all we do. The predominant focus of the retreat is exploring the essence of our mind\, by contemplation\, meditation and time in silence. \nIn an inspiring and supportive retreat environment we can begin to familiarise ourselves with wisdom and compassion so that we can apply them in our daily life and bring more ease to both our own life as well as the lives of others. \nEveryone is welcome to this retreat and no prior experience of meditation is needed. \nContent \n\nGuided meditation and contemplations\nInteractive exercises\nTime for rest\, relaxation and enjoying nature\n\nThe retreat will include periods of silence including during tea breaks and some meal times \nLocation\nThe retreat will be held in our new Dzogchen Beara Temple. DESCRIPTION:Loving Kindness Week\nDiscovering the True Nature of Love \nWhen our hearts and minds are filled with love we naturally experience happiness and well-being\, yet many of us feel a poverty of love\, which we may experience as either feeling unloved or not being able to love others as fully as we would wish. \nLoving Kindness meditation is a method that helps us to develop unconditional love\, starting with developing a healthy and loving relationship with ourselves and then extending out into all our relationships and ultimately to all beings. \nSome experience with meditation would be supportive for this retreat which includes several days with periods of silence. \nContent\n\nWays to evoke the natural love we all have within us\nLearning to be our own best friend\nWhat does it mean to have love for those we have difficulty with\nProviding an effective methodology in the form of Loving kindness meditation\nMoving toward a universal love while also treasuring our near and dear ones\nShowing how this meditation can be transformative in our daily life even in the most mundane or challenging situations\n\nDonation Based Events \nWe are offering this retreat on the basis of Dāna (Generosity) as it’s our heartfelt wish that finances should not be a barrier for people wishing to attend events – so for this event we do not set a retreat fee and charge only to cover catering and admin costs. You are invited to make a financial offering according to your means\, to help cover the costs of hosting the retreat and to ensure that such events continue into the future\, but there is no obligation.
