Healing Power of Forgiveness – Online
6 Week Online Course with Maureen Cooper
Wednesdays March 22 – April 26, 11am – 12.30pm (Irish time)
As we go through life, each of us carries our own story with all its joys and disappointments, loves and betrayals. Inevitably, many of us carry deep pain from things that have happened to us in the past. We may be struggling to come to terms with former friends or members of our family, or in someone from our past who still troubles us. We might even be feeling that we ourselves have behaved in ways we find hard to forgive. We may have been through divorce, job loss, illness, bereavement—where deeper hurts can easily come and can be harder to process and forgive.
Then, on an everyday, there are many times when forgiveness is called for—from small, practical situations such as an irritation with a partner over chores to be done, to disputes with neighbours over anti-social behaviour. Even at this level, we can see whether we easily reach for forgiveness, or whether we go for standing our ground and demanding an apology.
To help us explore all the healing power of forgiveness, this course will draw on two books, The Wisdom of Forgiveness by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Victor Chan and The Book of Forgiving by Desmond & Mpho Tutu.
We will explore the Fourfold Path to Forgiveness which the Tutus lay out in their book: Telling Your Story, Naming the Hurt, Granting Forgiveness and Renewing or Releasing the Relationship. Each stage will be looked at as a way of finding how we can heal through forgiveness and how it can be applied practically in your own life.
The approach will be interactive with time for questions and sharing. The course will consist of video extracts, exercises, contemplations and practices. Each participant will have a weekly PDF workbook containing all the main exercises, and quotes. After each session you will receive a list of the video links so you can watch them again.
We look forward to seeing you on-line!
