SUMMARY:Healing Relationships through Listening - June
DESCRIPTION:Healing Relationships through Listening\nTransforming Connections with Awareness Centred Listening \nThis weekend is for anyone who wishes to heal relationships with partners\, family members\, friends and work colleagues\, some of whom may no longer be in our lives. \nTopics for the weekend\n\nKindness towards our hard-to-deal-with feelings such as disappointment\, grief\, fear\, anger\, pain or hurt.\nHow to break patterns of relationships that keep coming back and don’t heal.\nHealing our own relationship with ourselves.\nReconnecting with our inner sense of well-being and self-compassion.\nTransforming past difficulties and becoming open to more genuine relationships.\n\nDuring this weekend we focus on both compassion for ourselves as well as ways to heal our relationships with others. \nSelf-compassion will be one of our themes because sometimes kindness to ourselves leads to more compassionate interactions with others. This self-reflective workshop\, away from the busyness of our daily life\, will offer both insights and a practical methodology to kindly address old problems in relating and heal difficult communication with others. \nMethods used in the weekend\n\nExperiential exercises on listening and communication in pairs and small groups\nReflective guided reflections and meditations\nGroup discussion.\n\nLocation\nThe retreat will be held in the Temple\, which is a modern example of a traditional Tibetan monastery designed to be an inspiring symbol of the Buddha’s teachings for our times.

SUMMARY:Finding Self Compassion
DESCRIPTION:Finding Self Compassion In our Everyday Lives\nWeekend Retreat with John Douglas \nFor most of us\, having a good sense of self esteem seems important. When we have it\, we feel good about ourselves and more positive and motivated in our lives. Conversely\, with low self esteem we are likely to feel bad about ourselves which often leads to a lack of self care and can contribute to depression. \nThe problem with self esteem isn’t having it but how we often try to get it; through self judgement\, social comparisons\, unhealthy competitiveness and holding ourselves up to higher and higher standards that are increasingly difficult to maintain. For many of us\, our usual way of trying to uphold these self-standards is through self criticism . . .ouch! \nSelf Compassion on the other hand has been shown to provide all the benefits of self esteem but without the downsides. Just when our self confidence and self esteem seems to let us down\, Self Compassion can be a wonderful source of comfort that all of us can discover within ourselves. \nIn this weekend retreat John will introduce Self Compassion experientially\, looking at ways to cultivate a deeper sense of warmth and kindness towards ourselves\, not because of how well our lives are going but because of just how difficult our lives can sometimes seem to be. \nIn this course we will be learn and practice skills of how to: \n\nuse awareness to be more present to our thoughts and emotions\nself-soothe some of our more difficult feelings\nbe less self critical and more compassionate to our weaknesses and vulnerabilities\nfeel less alone in the stress and challenges we face in everyday life\n\nResearch has shown that learning to be more compassionate to ourselves can: \n\nmake us happier in our lives\nreduce stress\nincrease our resilience\n\nThis retreat will comprise a mixture of short presentations\, guided meditations and small group discussions. This is not an academic course and active participation in small groups is a key element of this weekend. \nWe hope you’ll be able to join us. \nLocation\nThe retreat will be held in the Dzogchen Beara Temple. With expansive views across the bay\, the temple is a modern example of a traditional Tibetan monastery\, a form of architecture designed to be an inspiring symbol of the Buddha’s teachings for our times.

SUMMARY:The Heart Practice for Difficult Times
DESCRIPTION:The Heart Practice for Difficult Times\nWeekend Retreat with John Douglas & Anne Sheehan \nWhen things are difficult in our lives\, strong emotions can sometimes overwhelm us\, making it hard to get on with even the simplest of daily tasks. \nWhile meditation instructions invite us to stay present in the face of such strong emotions\, to neither indulge nor suppress them\, for many of us\, it is hard to stay with such feelings for long without becoming overwhelmed or else completely shutting down. \nIn this weekend workshop we will introduce methods from the Tibetan Buddhist Tradition for working with our hearts and minds that can be particularly helpful for easing\, releasing and transforming some of our more difficult feelings. \nContent Summary \n\nHow meditation techniques can help increase our tolerance for our own feelings\nUsing imagination and visualisation to help soothe and calm our minds and hearts\nGuided meditations and visualisations particularly focussed on calming or transforming our emotions\nAn introduction to using mantras\nExploring our personal relationship with prayer and how calling out from the heart can help connect us to greater sources of love and transformation both within and without irrespective of our belief system\nIntegrating these various elements into a personal “Heart Practice” that we can have and use as a refuge for difficult times in our lives\nSmall group discussions to share our experiences\n\nLocation\nThe retreat will be held in the Dzogchen Beara Temple. With expansive views across the bay\, the temple is a modern example of a traditional Tibetan monastery\, a form of architecture designed to be an inspiring symbol of the Buddha’s teachings for our times.
