An Evening of Remembrance – Online

A Free Online Communal Remembrance for the Deceased
Wednesday 1 November, 8pm to 9.15pm (Irish Time)

This evening is an opportunity for all of us that have lost loved ones to take part in an online communal remembrance, to connect and share our grief, to remember those we love and also to remember that we are not alone in our sorrow.

Dating right back to pre-Christian times, Samhain, and more recently All-Souls Day which falls on November 2nd, has traditionally been a time of commemoration for those dearly beloved who have passed. On this occasion we bring together both our Irish traditions and Buddhist practices for remembering the dead.

This online remembrance will include the lighting of 108 butter lamps at Dzogchen Beara in memory of all those who have died, however long ago.

Everyone participating will be invited to light their own candle or night light at home, visible on our webcams, and if you wish, to also share your photos of loved ones on gallery view at one point during the evening.

We will then lead a guided meditation called the “Essential Phowa”. This is a practice from the Tibetan Buddhist tradition that can be used at the time of dying and after death. It is a practice that anyone at all can do. It can be very helpful to support emotional healing and transform suffering and heartache during our period of mourning.
